Dear Charleston Catholic School Families,

Welcome to another great year at The Charleston Catholic School.  The Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is looking forward to providing enriching programs and activities for the students and families of CCS.

We will be supporting all the favorites such as Grandparents Day, Catholic Schools Week, and Teacher’s Appreciation events along with some exciting new additions. In order for all these things to happen, we need your support, assistance and most of all your time. The PTO is a very important part of CCS.  We have great teachers at Charleston Catholic, and we want to do as much as we can to show them our appreciation.

Volunteering and becoming involved at CCS will not just benefit the children and teachers, it also will benefit you! Research shows that children whose parents are involved in their education and school will earn better grades and score higher on tests. The reason that parent involvement increases student success is because children know their parents care and are invested enough to be involved in their daily school life.  Volunteering at CCS will keep you more informed and will help you establish strong friendships with other families. Many reports even suggest that volunteering can promote a longer life!  So, who wouldn’t want to volunteer?

Please keep in mind completion of the Safe Haven online Class (formerly Virtus) and background screening is mandatory to volunteer for any activity that involves children. Here are the instructions for how to take the class:

Go to www.catholicmutual.org

On right side of home page, click on CMG Connect Online Training Hub

Select your Diocese – Charleston, SC

Set up an account – remember your username and password for the future since we have to take it every 5 years

Click on Safe Haven – this is the new ‘Virtus’ class

Also you might want to take notes since there are questions after each section.

Print or email certificate and turn it into the school office or email it to charlestoncatholic@charlestoncatholic.org.

We are looking forward to a fun and productive school year with the help of all our wonderful mothers, fathers, caregivers, teachers and staff.  Please be sure to fill out the volunteer sheet you will find in the packet.

Thank you for your support,
