Our Hearts are Burning!

Spiritual Reflection
Third Sunday of Easter  Gospel of Luke 24: 13-35
Two disciples encountered Jesus on their way from Jerusalem to Emmaus but they did not recognize him.  Jesus interpreted the Scriptures for them while they were walking and then he shared a meal with them when they arrived in Emmaus.  “While he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them.  With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight.”
Besides experiencing Jesus in the sacrament of the Eucharist, in what ways do we encounter him in our lives?  How do we “recognize” Jesus’ presence?  Let us continue to celebrate Christ’s resurrection throughout the Easter season which lasts until Pentecost.  Hopefully, we will experience the same feeling as the two disciples who exclaimed: “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?”
