Gospel of Luke 2: 16-21
"The shepherds went in haste to Bethlehem and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant lying in the manager. When they saw this, they made known the message that had been told to them about this child. All who heard it were amazed by what had been told them by the shepherds."
How about that shepherds were the first Christian evangelists! No wonder people were amazed! "Ordinary" people (shepherds) proclaiming an extraordinary" message, "God does work in mysterious ways." This week, let us we be as joyful about our faith as the shepherds.
Today, January 4, is the feast day of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, the patron saint of Catholic schools in the United States of America. She founded a religious order, the Sisters of Charity of Saint Joseph in Maryland, and they opened the first Catholic school in the United States in 1810 (202 years ago!).
School Communication
Report Cards for second quarter will come home in the Monday family envelope on Jan. 9. Each student's report will be in a sealed envelope per family.
Deacon Filip Wodecki, brother of Fr. Jeremi Wodecki, parochial vicar at the Cathedral and St. Mary, was ordained a priest by Bishop Guglielmone on December 28th. Congratulations to Fr. Filip Wodecki on his ordination.
Please note that Friday, February 17 will be a school day with 11:15 a.m. dismissal to make up the school day missed due to Hurricane Irene this past August. The faculty will have an in-service day in the afternoon. After Care will be available on this day.
We have a new total for student enrollment as of today with 189 students. We welcomed four new students for the start of the third quarter: Anna Fosberry (6th grade), Abigail Fosberry (5th grade), Sean Michael Kittrell (3rd grade) and Andrew Kouba (K4).
No school on Monday, Jan. 16th - Martin Luther King, Jr. birthday observed.
We are currently improving the school website and would appreciate parent feedback. Please let us know your suggestions, comments and requests on how we can make the site more user-friendly, and send information to Jacel Egan at jegan@charlestoncatholic.org with the subject line: "CCS Web."

Mission Statement
The Charleston Catholic School educates a socially diverse student body in a nurturing family environment within the sacred tradition and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Teachers challenge the students to discover their own unique gifts through creative inquiry and critical thinking in the core academic subjects and the arts. Our small, loving environment enables students to learn self discipline through responsible decision-making and to develop a sense of compassion for others.
