Principal’s Message

Dear CCS Families and Friends,

We will open up the Parent Web as part of the RenWeb school
management system this weekend. We are going to start with Grades 3-8
now, then add Gr. 1-2 in a few weeks, and finally K4 & K5 before the
end of the quarter. We will email instructions to families on how to
set up your login and password so that you will have access to your
family information and to your own children’s student information.
You will get this email today (Friday). For families with students
in grades 3-8, please set up your account over the weekend. If you
have any difficulty, email the school office on Monday and we will
help you.

Under the Student Information, you will be able to see information on
your child’s attendance, behavior and grades. The student “home
page” is a summary, and then you can click on the details on any of
these categories. For the student’s Gradebook Progress Report, you
will see a “numerical average” on the summary page and then you can
click on the “numerical average” and you will see the details of all
graded assignments, quizzes, tests, etc. For the special area
classes, grades will appear for these classes at the end of the
quarter (art, band, chorus, computer, drama, physical education,
etc.).

Under the Family Information, please check all of the data for
accuracy. Let the office know if any changes need to be made,
especially email addresses and phone numbers, so that we can update
your family information in our emergency alert system. You will also
be able to see billing information for After Care fees.

We expect the RenWeb school management system will enhance the
communication between home and school.

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay
Principal

Spiritual Reflection

A Prayer for World Peace

Lord, we pray for the power to be gentle;

the strength to be forgiving;

the patience to be understanding;

and the endurance to accept the consequences of

holding to what we believe to be right.

May we put our trust in the power of good

to overcome evil and the power of love to overcome

hatred.

We pray for the vision to see and the

faith to believe in a world emancipated

from violence, a new world where fear shall

no longer lead men to commit injustice,

nor selfishness make them bring suffering to others.

Help us to devote our whole life and thought

and energy to the task of making peace,

praying always for the inspiration and

the power to fulfill the destiny for which we and

all men were created.

New Sails on the Playground!

Thank you Mr. Eddie Keating for your hard work and getting the final
sail installed on the playground! We appreciate everyone’s hard work,
contributions and dedication to the playground fund!

Principal’s Message

Dear CCS Families and Friends,

First, thank you to all of our families who came to Open House this
past Tuesday evening. We are excited about the PTO’s plans for
activities for this school year. Also, we appreciate everyone who
signed up (or will sign up) for the various committees to implement
the activities. I want to recognize our PTO Officers for their
leadership this year:

Laura Simmons, President
Bayne Ritter, Vice President
Tara Enriquez, Secretary
Kelly Duffy, Treasurer

Second, we look forward to working with our student leaders on the
Student Council for this school year. Speeches and Elections were
held this past Wednesday and announced today. See below for the new
officers. There were multiple candidates for each position, and we
are proud of the courage that each student displayed in running for
an office as well as the sportsmanship demonstrated when the results
were announced. We will add Classroom Representatives from Grades
5-8 next week. Thank you to Sister Richarde, our Student Council
Advisor, for working with our student leaders.

Third, Tumbleston Photography Studios took our school pictures
(individual and class photos) this past Wednesday. If you have any
questions, please contact Tumbleston at 843-766-9400 or see their web

School Cancelled Friday, September 2nd

September 1, 2016

We will cancel school for Friday, September 2, following the advice
of our local officials. We have also confirmed this decision with
the Director of Catholic Education for the Diocese of Charleston.

Charleston County Officials and City of Charleston Officials
announced for people to “stay home Friday if they do not need to
travel because of possible flooding” due to Tropical Storm Hermine.
The expectation is for heavy rainfall, and high tide is Friday
morning.

The area around Charleston Catholic School is one of the worst in
terms of flooding on the peninsula.

Please be safe and take all necessary precautions for the arrival of
Tropical Storm Hermine.

Running Club will NOT meet today. The next Running Club activity
will be Tuesday, September 6th.

Reminder: Monday is Labor Day Holiday. School will resume on Tuesday
Morning.

IRIS ALERT TEST TODAY

August 31, 2016

Dear CCS Parents,

We will be testing our IRIS Alert system today. The IRIS Alert system is what we use in case of school closings or delayed openings because of bad weather, or for any other reason.

School families will be informed as soon as possible by an emergency notice transmitted through the school’s alert notification system (phone, email and text messages). The school office needs up-to-date phone numbers and email addresses in order to send families the emergency communications. The school web site, www.charlestoncatholic.com and the school Facebook page will also post the information.

For today’s test, you should receive a phone call, email & text on your cell phone. Please wait for the message to play. Then you will know that this is a test.

If you do NOT receive a notification by the end of the school day, please call the school office.

Principal’s Message

Dear CCS Families and Friends,

The school purchased Ren Web School Management Software system this
summer. Many of the Catholic schools in our Diocese are now using
Ren Web. We received some initial training in Ren Web earlier in
August, and we continue to receive training through webinars. We
will use this system for recording all data for students and
families. There are multiple components, and as we learn them, we
will incorporate them into our daily use.

There is a Parent Portal component called Parents Web. Sometime in
September, you will be granted access to this resource, and you will
have your own login and password to manage your family information
and see your child’s academic progress. This resource will help in
the communication between school and home. You will start receiving
some email messages from the teachers through Ren Web soon (some have
already sent some trial emails).

Afternoon Carpool – some important matters to keep in mind.
When you are in line on King Street, please put on your hazard lights
until you actually turn onto Congress Street On King Street, make sure
to leave room at intersections, driveways, and the CARTA bus stop.
Please do not block any of these. We need to be good neighbors. On
Congress Street and Benson Street, please be aware that neighbors may
need to get out of their driveways or street parking spaces, and
please let them in. Again, it is very important for us to be mindful
of our neighbors. All students should be picked up in the car line on
Benson Street unless they are walking or biking home, and we have a
“walk home” permission form that must be completed. Please do not line
up on Congress or Benson Street until 2:55PM; carpool begins at
3:00PM and usually ends between 3:15 & 3:20PM.Safety, Courtesy, and
Patience are the goals of afternoon carpool. Thank you.

We look forward to seeing you at Open House on Tuesday, August 30 at 5:30PM.
Parking will be available on the school playground for handicapped
persons, elderly persons and expectant mothers. All other cars
should park on the empty lot on King Street across from Sacred Heart
Church, the Longshoremen parking lot on corner of Congress and King,
or on Benson / Congress streets.

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay
Principal

Lord our God,

you surround us with the mysteries of the universe.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
