Running Club Cancelled Today September 29, 2016

September 29, 2016

Dear CCS Families,

Unfortunately, we will have to cancel running club today. We do not
have enough adult volunteers to supervise the students. I would like
to thank Mrs. Cavallon, Mrs. Enriquez and Doctor DiBona who usually
help me. However they have a conflict today.

Tuesday, we had 28 participants in running club. The Club needs a
minimum of 4 adults to supervise the students. We are excited the
club is being so well received, however we do need more help. Please
email me if you are interested in being a volunteer.

We will be creating a signup genius to give you an opportunity to
volunteer. This will help us know if we have enough supervision to
hold running club.

Thank you,

Sam Duncan

Principal’s Message

Dear CCS Families and Friends,

I appreciate the outstanding effort of our students and teachers
during standardized testing this week. We know that this can be a
stressful time, especially with the change in schedules and routines.
Next week, we return to a regular class schedule and typical
structure in place.

We are not sending home any paper copies of progress reports this
school year, since we are using the Grade Book on RenWeb and parents
have access to view their children’s grades throughout the marking
period. We will create report cards at the end of each quarter that
we will email or send home. K4 & K5 Progress Reports will be sent
home at the end of each quarter. If any family is having difficulty
accessing their children’s grades through Parent Web, please let us
know and we will assist you.

We are proud of our CCS Senior and Junior Volleyball teams who have
been demonstrating great effort, attitude and sportsmanship on the
court this Fall. They have been excellent representatives of our
school. Go Saints!

Thank you to our Fifth Grade Class and Sr. Richarde for being great
ambassadors for CCS on their field trip to Fort Sumter last Friday.
One of our teachers was in the airport on Friday afternoon waiting to
get on the plane when she struck up a conversation with another
passenger. When she communicated that she was a teacher at CCS, the
other person said that she was so impressed with the good behavior
and good manners of our fifth graders as that person had been
visiting Fort Sumter earlier in the day. This person told our
teacher that the students were great ambassadors for our school.

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay
Principal

Spiritual Reflection

If we really want to pray,

we must first learn to listen:

for in the silence of the heart God speaks.

And to be able to hear God,

we need a clean heart.

Let us listen to God,

to what he has to say.

We cannot speak unless we have listened,

unless we have made our connection with God.

From the fullness of the heart,

the mouth will speak,

the mind will think.

~Saint Teresa of Calcutta

Fort Sumter Field Trip

The 5th Grade enjoyed their tour of Ft. Sumter. They helped raise the
American Flag. The students were great ambassadors of The Charleston Catholic School.
We are proud of our Saints!

Principal’s Message

Dear CCS Families and Friends,

Next week is testing week and our child protection lessons for the
students. Testing begins promptly each morning after Morning Prayer,
and so it is critically important that students arrive to school on
time and having had a quality breakfast and good night’s sleep.

First Grade and Fourth Grade take the CogAT tests which measure a
student’s ability in several areas (verbal, nonverbal, and
quantitative). These tests are scored in two ways, according to age
and grade level.

Grades 3-8 take the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills. These achievement
tests cover many areas: reading, written expression, vocabulary,
capitalization, punctuation, spelling, social studies, science, and
math. These tests are scored according to age and grade level. They
measure a student’s achievement relative to other students on a
national scale.

On Friday, our religion teachers in grades K5 to 8th will instruct
the students in child protection lessons as required by the Diocese
annually. This year’s topic is Touching Safety Rules. The lessons
are arranged according to grade levels: K5-2nd; 3rd-5th; 6th-8th.
The Child Protection program is part of the overall effort of the
Diocese of Charleston to comply with the Charter for the Protection
of Children established by the U.S. Catholic Bishops.

There will be no School Mass next week since the priests in our
Diocese will be on retreat from Monday to Thursday. Our next School
Mass will be September 28th.

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay
Principal

Spiritual Reflection

The most natural thing is the family life.

What keeps the family together,

what nourishes the life of the family together,

is that surrender to each other;

is that obedience;

is that accepting of each other.

Math & Science Class

The Math & Science Class students were busy participating in many
experiments this week. This particular experiment involved dry ice.
Mrs. Siedentop and Mr. Fields teach this special area class.
