Principal’s Message

Dear CCS Families and Friends,

This week, Charleston Catholic was recognized by News 2 and
McDonald’s of Charleston as the Cool School of the Week. Hopefully,
you were able to see our school featured on the News 2 broadcasts on
Wednesday and again today. The segments are posted on Counton2.com,
the CCS website under “News and Events” and our school’s Facebook
page. It was great to be recognized, and we appreciate News 2 and
McDonald’s of Charleston for sponsoring this award. Go Saints!

We concluded the first quarter of the academic year this week.
Report Cards for Grades 1-8 will be emailed home next week. Parent –
Teacher Conferences will be Friday, October 28, 7:30AM to 1:00PM (no
school for students).

We have two special school Masses coming up — and all are welcome to
attend. On Monday, Bishop Guglielmone will celebrate Mass with our
school. Then, the following week, on Tuesday, November 1, All Saints
Day, we will have our Alumni Reunion Mass and Reception.

As you know, we missed 3 school days because of Hurricane Matthew.
We will not have to make up these days. The official word from the
Diocese about make-up days from Hurricane Matthew is below:

Hurricane Matthew School Make Up Days

Because of Hurricane Matthew, some schools across the diocese were
hindered significantly due to flooding and power outage issues and
not able to open for up to eight days. Others schools were not
affected at all. Because of the mandated evacuation and the
inability of some schools to even access their buildings, the Diocese
of Charleston Catholic Schools Office will forgive up to eight (8)
days out of school due to Hurricane Matthew. Any days over eight
will need to be made up prior to the end of the 2016-17 school year.

Sandra Leatherwood, Director of Catholic Education Office of Education

Our middle school volleyball teams have concluded their seasons. We
are proud of our Junior Girls and Senior Girls Volleyball players and
coaches on their play, effort, attitude and sportsmanship throughout
the season. Go Saints!

Basketball practices for our numerous teams will begin next week.

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay
Principal

Spiritual Reflection

Act of Contrition

My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart.

In choosing to wrong and in failing to do good,

I have sinned against You whom I should love

above all things.

I firmly intend, with Your help, to do penance,

to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me

to sin.

Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us.

In His Name, my God, have mercy.

Congratulations Blair!

Blair placed 1st in the City of Charleston Recreation Department’s
St. Julian Devine 2016 Coast Week Kids Art Contest.
Congratulations Blair!

Great job!

Principal’s Message

Dear CCS Families and Friends,

Hopefully, everyone was safe during Hurricane Matthew. The school
campus had some water and wind damage, but it appeared to be minor
and certainly could have been worse. We were very fortunate, and we
extend our prayers and thoughts to others who suffered loss of life
and/or significant property damage.

Today was supposed to be the end of the first quarter. Because of
days missed last week, we are extending the first quarter until
Wednesday, October 19. Our plan is to email report cards for Grades
1-8 through RenWeb the week of October 24-28 and keep the Parent –
Teacher Conferences on Friday, October 28 as originally scheduled.
We will have paper copies of report cards for K5 that parents can
pick up when they come to their conferences.

Students may continue to wear their Summer Uniforms next week, Oct.
17-21. We will start Winter Uniforms on Monday, October 24. Also,
on Monday, Oct. 24, all students will wear Mass Day Uniforms as
Bishop Guglielmone will celebrate Mass for the students on this day.
We will follow a Wednesday class schedule on this day and a Monday
class schedule on Oct. 26.

We look forward to our school’s Walk-a-thon tomorrow, Saturday, Oct.
15, 8:30AM to 1:00PM at Colonial Lake. Please join us for the walk
and the picnic hosted by the CCS PTO. All family members and friends
are welcome to participate.

Two weeks ago we welcomed Octavia Mitchell and NBC News 2 to our
school. Due to Hurricane Matthew the segments were delayed and CCS
will be featured next week as the “Cool School” of the week. Please
see the times listed below and be sure to tune in to News 2.

Oct. 17 – 21: CCS will be mentioned on News 2 during the weather
segment at 5AM & 6AM.
Oct. 19: CCS will be featured in the Cool School Segment on News 2 at
6AM, 7AM, & 5PM.
Oct. 21: CCS will be featured in the Cool School Segment on News 2 at

Spiritual Reflection

Hail, Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy,
hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To you we cry, the children of Eve;
to you we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this land of exile.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us;
lead us home at last
and show us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus:
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Fire Safety Month

October is Fire Safety month. Engine 8 from the Huger Street Station
visited the CCS campus today. K4 – 2 grades heard a presentation
from the Firemen. Then the
students had an opportunity to look and venture inside the fire
truck! The students learned a lot and had a great time!
