Principal’s Message

January 29, 2016

CCS Families,

As we begin Catholic Schools Week this weekend with Masses at our 4
Peninsula Parishes, it is time to recognize and celebrate our
Catholic schools. At Charleston Catholic, we are most grateful for
the excellent teaching and dedication of our faculty. We appreciate
the involvement of our families and the wonderful support provided to
our teachers and students. We express our gratitude to the generous
financial support of our benefactors who contribute to our annual
fund, building fund, auction, tuition assistance and scholarship
funds. We are blessed with the spiritual leadership and support of
Bishop Guglielmone as well as the priests who celebrate our school
Masses: thank you, Msgr. Brovey, Fr. Willey, Fr. Henry, Fr. Allen,
and Fr. Patrick.

Thank you very much to our CCS families who have re-enrolled their
children for next school year. We have had an outstanding response
from our current families, and we are most grateful for your
confidence in the quality of Catholic education that we provide at
CCS. Many of our classes are either at capacity or near capacity,
and we expect to fill remaining seats with new students as we have
had numerous tours with potential families.

I was very proud of our 8th Grade Class with their participation in
the School Choice Rally in Columbia this past Wednesday and with
their outstanding behavior as we met with two state senators in their
offices and observed the opening ceremonies and procedures of the
Senate’s legislative session that day. Great job, 8th Grade!

Congratulations to Brendan, 7th grade, for winning our school-wide
Geography Bee. Also, we are proud of George (8th) for second place
and Mason (5th) for third place. Brendan will compete at the state
level by taking a written geography test. Best wishes to him in this
state competition.

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay

Catholic Schools Week Prayer

Almighty Father,

You sent forth your Son as a beacon of hope for all people. As
Teacher, he has given us the prime example of the importance of
education. As disciples, we look to him for inspiration and strength.
Thank you for the many sisters, brothers, priests, and laypeople who
have dedicated their lives in service to our Catholic schools. Thank
you for the teachers and administrators who sustain our schools
today. Thank you for the parents who have given support and witness
to the importance of Catholic education in their daily lives. Thank
you for the students who work hard to further their education.

Amen

Box Top$ News!

January 28, 2016

Dear Charleston Catholic School Families,

It is time to call upon all your friends, neighbors and relatives and start collecting Box Top$. Our last collection date for this school year will be Friday, February 19th. It is important that all of us collect as many Box Tops as possible.

The funds that the PTO receives from the collection of Box Top$ help provide birthday gifts for our teachers and staff as well as monthly treats and lunches for them. We are so blessed to have such fabulous teachers and staff at Charleston Catholic and always want to show them how much we appreciate all they do for our children. Our school wide goal is to collect at least 7,000 Box Top$ this collection period.

If the school wide goal is met, the reward will be a school wide T.A.G. day. In addition, the class that collects the most Box Top$ will get a pizza party!! So let’s start clipping and bring in the most Box Top$ that Charleston Catholic has ever collected.

FYI: For the 2014-15 school year, CCS PTO earned a total of $892.30. Our goal for this school year, 2015-16 is a total of $1,000.00. The CCS PTO has earned $696.80 towards this goal from our Fall collection.

Also, you can earn 5 Bonus Box Top$ for CCS if you go to the Box Top$ website and enter a special code:
• Code: EWWL3-4GF3H-CC3R

Thanks in advance for your participation.

Principal’s Message

January 22, 2016

CCS Families,

What a week for academic achievements by our students! Last Friday,
at the South Carolina Junior Beta Club convention in Myrtle Beach, we
had very good effort by all of our Beta members in their
competitions, and some outstanding results for two of our students.
Carson (8th grade) won first place in the Essay contest, and Isabella
(8th grade) won second place in the Art contest for oil / acrylics
painting. Both Carson and Isabella earned the opportunity to compete
in the National Beta Club convention in New Orleans this summer.

This past Thursday (yesterday), three of our upper school students
participated in the Coastal Region Catholic School Spelling Bee at
Christ Our King – Stella Maris School. Among the 15 contestants, two
of our students finished in first and second place. We are proud of
the efforts of Carson (8th), Joshua (7th) and Brendan (7th). Brendan
placed first and Joshua placed second. Both Brendan and Joshua will
represent CCS and the Diocese in the Post and Courier Spelling Bee
for the Tri-County area this spring.

Congratulations to our students for their excellence in academic
achievements! Go Saints!

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay

Congratulations!

We would like to congratulate the 10 students who received the
Sacrament of Confirmation at the Cathedral on Sunday!

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them
the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit –

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts
of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit –

Principal’s Message

January 8, 2016

CCS Families,

We are blessed to have a school community in which people come
together and rally around one another in good times and challenging
times. Just about every week in the school year, somebody or some
family experiences the Saints’ spirit. Thank you to everyone who
exemplifies the Golden Rule within our Saints community.

Next week, on Monday, report cards for second quarter will come home
in the Communications Envelope. Please contact your child’s teacher
if you want to make an appointment to discuss your child’s progress.

Next Friday, dismissal for the students will be 11:15 AM and then the
teachers will have professional development time in the afternoon.
Please make the necessary plans to pick up your children at this
early dismissal time. Thank you.

There will be no school Mass and no family rosary next week. All of
the priests in the diocese have meetings during the week for their
annual Convocation.

Next Saturday, January 16 is the Charleston Marathon. There will be
a water stop outside our school campus on King Street for the
runners. We are looking for volunteers, adults and children, to hand
out water to the runners as they pass by. More details about this
event will be sent home by email early next week.

Good luck to all of our Saints basketball teams this weekend in their
games, and best wishes to our band students who are participating in
the region band competition tomorrow. Go Saints!

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay
