Special Mass for Healing and Peace

The Diocese of Charleston will offer a special Mass for healing and peace as the Lowcountry commemorates the one-year anniversary of the deadly shooting at Emanuel AME Church, and the country mourns those who lost their lives in the massacre in Orlando, Fla. Father Joseph Romanoski, dean of the Coastal Deanery, will celebrate the Mass on Wednesday, June 15, at 7 p.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive. During the Mass, prayers will be offered for the victims and survivors of both tragedies, and all victims of violence.

Please consider joining us for this special Mass so we as a Catholic community can join our voices in prayer for the souls of those who died, for healing for those who were injured, and for the gift of peace for those who survived.
If you have any questions regarding the Mass, please contact Maria Aselage, director of Media Relations, at 843-513-7605 or at maria@catholic-doc.org.

Principal’s Message

Dear CCS Families and Friends,

We were treated to an amazing performance last night by our band
students under the direction of Mrs. Draftz. The 4th grade beginner
band played with great enthusiasm and showed the tremendous growth
they have made over the course of the year. We are proud of their
progress and accomplishment in one year. The concert band (grades
5-8) gave a stellar performance. Their sound was precise and
powerful. We congratulate our 8th grade band students on their
excellent career in CCS Band.

Congratulations to Carson for earning First Place in the 8th Grade
Patriotic Essay Contest for local Catholic schools sponsored by the
Knights of Columbus Rev. P. N. Lynch Assembly. She was recognized
this past Wednesday at the Knights Awards Dinner. Also, Carson’s
essay was submitted for the statewide contest, and she earned First
Place in the State as well. We are proud of Carson’s achievement.

Thank you to everyone who supported our 25th Anniversary Gala &
Auction. This was the first year that we sold out tickets – 300 in
attendance! Our fundraising numbers are: $79,000 in gross revenue
(ticket sales, sponsorships, fund-a-need donations, class auction
project sales, silent auction sales, games, and secret ballot box
sales); $39,000 in total expenses; net income of $40,000. This net
income is divided as follows: $10,000 for new tile floor for
cafe-gym-atorium; $9,000 for new band instruments; $6,000 for
operating fund; $15,000 for building fund (pay mortgage on loan for
the new building). Again, thank you for making our event a success!

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay

Spiritual Reflection

Hail, Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy,
hail, our life, our sweetness, and our hope.
To you we cry, the children of Eve;
to you we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this land of exile.
Turn, then, most gracious advocate,
your eyes of mercy toward us;
lead us home at last
and show us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus:
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Fantastic Band Concert Last Night!

It was a packed house for the final band concert of the year. The 4th
grade band and the Concert Band were amazing! Thank you Mrs. Draftz
for your fantastic instruction!

Box Top$ Collection May 25, 2016

School-boxtop

Dear Charleston Catholic School Families,
We have had such a successful year with our Box Top$ for Education
collections. This year we are very happy to announce we actually
exceeded our goal! We collected $1,215.20 this year. Thank you to
everyone for collecting and sending in their Box Top$.

We are going to have one final Box Top$ collection date next
Wednesday, May 25th. Last year we found this was a great way to
prevent Box Top$ from being lost or misplaced over the summer. It is
also a good start to the beginning of a new school year.

Remember that the money we receive back from the Box Top$ For
Education goes toward birthday gifts, breakfasts, and lunches for the
teachers and office staff throughout the year. Please look around and
send in any Box Top$ that you have. I also ask that you please check
to make sure that they have not expired.

As always thank you very much for your help in supporting The
Charleston Catholic School.

Principal’s Message

Dear CCS Families and Friends,

Thank you to everyone for participating in and supporting our Gala &
Auction this past Friday night! It truly was a wonderful celebration
of our 25 years as well as the almost 200 years of Catholic education
on the Peninsula. We are most grateful to the dedicated effort of
our Gala & Auction Planning Team and Volunteers. We appreciate the
support of our Sponsors, people who purchased tickets, donated items,
bid on items, and contributed to our two Fund-a-Need items. Although
the final financial numbers are not available at this time, it is
safe to say that we had a successful fundraiser and looks like we are
close to meeting our goals for both Fund-a-Need items. We will
publish more information as soon as we have it.

Congratulations to all of our Second Grade students who have received
their First Holy Communion in recent weeks. Also, congratulations to
many of our 8th Grade students who have made the sacrament of
Confirmation and those who will be confirmed this Sunday at
the11:15AM Mass at Sacred Heart and Monday night at 7:00PM at Christ
Our King.

Please join us this coming Thursday for our final PTO meeting of the
year at 6PM followed by performances by our Chorus and Movement
Classes.

Happy Mother’s Day this Sunday to all of our CCS Mothers! We hope
you have a fantastic day and celebrate with your family.

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay

Proclamation of Joy

Jesus teaches us that the Good News, which He brings, is not reserved
to one part of humanity, it is to be communicated to everyone. It is
a proclamation of joy destined for those who are waiting for it, but
also for those who perhaps are no longer waiting for anything and
haven’t even the strength to seek and to ask.

— Angelus, January 26, 2014

CCS Principals!

It was wonderful to have all four of CCS Principals in one place to
celebrate 25 years of The Charleston Catholic School. We would like
to take this opportunity to thank all four Principals for their hard
work and dedication to make The Charleston Catholic School what it is
today. We appreciate your vision!
