Principal’s Message

May 15, 2015

Dear CCS Families,

This Sunday, May 17, the Catholic Church in the Diocese of Charleston
will celebrate the Feast Day of the Ascension. Jesus promised His
disciples that He would send an Advocate to be with them after He
went to heaven. Next Sunday, May 24, the Church will celebrate the
Feast of Pentecost, the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples in
the upper room.

Also, this Sunday, ten of our 8th grade students will receive the
Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Guglielmone at the 11:15
a.m.Mass at Sacred Heart Church. Then, on Tuesday evening at Christ
Our King Church, another one of our 8th graders will be confirmed.
Let’s pray for these students.

Finally, on Tuesday, May 19, from 5-7 pm, we will have our Athletic
Banquet for the upper school basketball teams, girl volleyball teams
and all 4 of our tennis teams (Red, White, Black and Blue Saints).
On behalf of all of our tennis coaches, I want to say how proud we
are of the tennis players. We had 35 students in grades 3-8
participate in tennis this spring, and they did a great job in
representing our school in all of their matches with excellent
attitude, effort and sportsmanship. I am particularly proud of the
Red Saints team (7th & 8th graders) who won the regular season in
their division with a perfect 7-0 record. Best wishes to all our
Saints tennis teams in their tournament matches next week.

Yours in Christ,

Spiritual Reflection

Monsignor Brovey is on his pilgrimage to Fatima and Lourdes.
Monsignor took with him prayer cards that the CCS students and
faculty wrote last week and placed them at the base of Our Lady of
Fatima statue.

This marks the spot where Mary appeared 98 years ago to the 3
shepherd children. There were over 250,000 present for the praying of
the rosary and Mass at the Tuesday night for the vigil of Feast of
Our Lady of Fatima. On Wednesday morning there were over 200,000
people, 300 priests and 40 Cardinals/Bishops in attendance of the
98th anniversary of the first apparition. Monsignor wanted to let
everyone know he is praying for everyone at the school and their
families.
We pray for a safe trip for Monsignor Brovey and thank him for
remembering us in his prayers at Fatima.

At the Bandstand

The movement and chorus did an outstanding job as they took us back
to the 50’s. They danced and sang to some wonderful tunes! Everyone
enjoyed this fun filled evening! Thank you Mrs. Metzler and Mrs.
Santiago for your wonderful direction! The students did an
outstanding job!

Spiritual Reflection

This coming Sunday is the Fifth Sunday of Easter

The Gospel reading is John 15: 1-8

Jesus said to His disciples: “I am the vine, you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because
without me you can do nothing.”

In the month of May, some of our students will be receiving
sacraments and thereby will have unique opportunities to expand their
faith and relationship with Jesus. This Saturday, at the 5:30 p.m.
Vigil Mass at the Cathedral, our 8th graders who are parishioners of
Cathedral and St. Mary will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation
from Bishop Guglielmone. This Sunday, at the 11:15 a.m. Mass at
Sacred Heart, our 2nd graders who are parishioners of Sacred Heart
will receive their First Communion.

Next week, on Sunday, May 10, 2nd graders will receive First
Communion at St. Mary at the 9:30 a.m. Mass. Also, 2nd graders will
receive First Communion at Cathedral at the 11:15 a.m. Mass.

May God Bless all of these 2nd and 8th grade students.

Neighborhood House

The 5th grade class helped serve lunch at The Neighborhood House.

March 27, 2015

Dear CCS Families and Friends,

This Sunday is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Holy Week. For
Catholics / Christians, this is the holiest time of the year, and
therefore it is very important to focus our personal time and effort
on our faith. Check with your parish about times for these unique
liturgical experiences that we celebrate once per year. On Holy
Tuesday, Bishop Guglielmone will celebrate the Chrism Mass at the
Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. Priests from all parishes in the Diocese
participate in this liturgy.

On behalf of all of the faculty and administration, I wish your
family a Happy Easter on April 5th and enjoy the Easter break during
the following week. Classes will resume on April 13th.

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay

Spiritual Reflection

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, Our life, our sweetness and our
hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, To thee do we send
up our sighs, Mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, And
after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb,
Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us, O Holy Mother
of God, That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Amen.

Principal’s Message

March 21, 2015

Dear CCS Families and Friends,

First, I would like to thank all of you who supported our school’s Auction in one way or another. I am grateful to everyone who purchased tickets and attended the event, people who sent in donations because they could not attend, families and businesses who were sponsors, families and businesses who donated items for silent and live auction, and people who “won” items through the bidding process and the games. Also, in a special way, I would like to recognize our CCS Auction Team who did so much in the planning and preparing for the event as well as in carrying out the event last weekend.

Second, believe it or not, we have just completed the first week of the fourth quarter. We are in the “home stretch” of the school year with nine more weeks of celebrating our children as “gifts” and our teachers as “blessings”.

Third, this past week, we received our final report from the Accreditation Internal Review Team, and we will email this report to all of our stakeholders. We appreciate the commendations and the recognition of our school’s strengths, and we also understand and embrace the two required actions for school improvement / progress.

Last, the 2015-16 school year will be the 25th year of Charleston Catholic School. This will be an important milestone for all of our faculty (current & former), alumni, benefactors, parishioners, and current students / families. We look forward to a celebration at our Auction/Gala in the Spring of 2016, and I would like to invite people to volunteer to serve on the Leadership Team for this important event. Please contact me by email or phone if you would like to help me with the planning and execution of this event.

Prayer to St. Joseph, whose feast day was March 19

Remember, O most pure spouse of the Virgin Mary, my beloved Patron, that never it has been heard that anyone invoked your patronage and sought your aid without being comforted. Inspired by this confidence I come to you and fervently commend myself to you. Despise not my petition, O dearest foster father of our Redeemer, but accept it graciously.
Amen.
