Charleston Marathon Volunteers Needed January 16th

January 11, 2016

Dear CCS Families,

This Saturday, January 16, is the Charleston Marathon. Mrs. Sara
Cavallon will be our coordinator for volunteers. The Charleston
Catholic School will be the water stop at the 6 mile marker.

We would like to have 15 – 20 volunteers to hand water to the
runners. Volunteers need to arrive by 7:30am, and finish
approximately at 9:30 – 10:00am. Upper School students can earn
service hours.

We need someone with a trailer hitch to move the U Haul trailer from
CCS to the U Haul Location on Upper King Street after the race.

If you are interested in volunteering, please call or email Mrs. Sara
Cavallon at (843) 697-7008 or somethingtocelebrate@yahoo.com.

Principal’s Message

January 8, 2016

CCS Families,

We are blessed to have a school community in which people come
together and rally around one another in good times and challenging
times. Just about every week in the school year, somebody or some
family experiences the Saints’ spirit. Thank you to everyone who
exemplifies the Golden Rule within our Saints community.

Next week, on Monday, report cards for second quarter will come home
in the Communications Envelope. Please contact your child’s teacher
if you want to make an appointment to discuss your child’s progress.

Next Friday, dismissal for the students will be 11:15 AM and then the
teachers will have professional development time in the afternoon.
Please make the necessary plans to pick up your children at this
early dismissal time. Thank you.

There will be no school Mass and no family rosary next week. All of
the priests in the diocese have meetings during the week for their
annual Convocation.

Next Saturday, January 16 is the Charleston Marathon. There will be
a water stop outside our school campus on King Street for the
runners. We are looking for volunteers, adults and children, to hand
out water to the runners as they pass by. More details about this
event will be sent home by email early next week.

Good luck to all of our Saints basketball teams this weekend in their
games, and best wishes to our band students who are participating in
the region band competition tomorrow. Go Saints!

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay

CCS Families,

We had some fantastic student performances this past week to complete
the first semester. Our concert band gave stellar performances at
Charleston Yacht Club and Second Sunday on King Street. They were
great ambassadors for our school last weekend. Last night, the 4th
grade Beginner Band and Upper School Concert Band put on an excellent
Christmas concert for our families and friends. We are very proud of
Mrs. Draftz, our band director, and all of our band students.

Finally, today we had our school wide spelling bee. We had 18
participants from grades 3-8. We are proud of all the students.
Congratulations to our top three spellers: First place, Joshua (Gr
7); Second place, Carson (Gr 8); Third place, Brendan (Gr 7). They
will represent our school in the Diocesan Coastal Spelling Bee in the
winter.

Have a Holy Christmas and Blessed New Year!

Yours in Christ,

Principal’s Message

December 11, 2015

CCS Families,

Advent is the time that the Church designates for the preparation of
Christmas. We reflect on the “true reason for the season” and get
ready for the birth of our Lord. Last night’s Lower School Special
Arts Christmas Program certainly gave everyone in the audience the
“message” about the miracle of the birth of Jesus. We are proud of
not only the talents of our Movement, Chorus and Drama students in
grades 1-4, but we are most grateful to these children for delivering
the “true message of Christmas” with their singing, dancing and
acting. We extend our congratulations and appreciation for their
teachers, Mrs. Metzler and Mrs. Santiago, who directed such fantastic
and spiritually moving performances.

This weekend and next week, our concert band (grades 5-8) gets their
opportunity to share their talents with the various audiences they
will have. On Saturday, they are the entertainment for the
Charleston Yacht Club Children’s Christmas Party. On Sunday, they
will perform at Second Sunday on King Street from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
at the corner of Beaufain and King streets, next to the Daughters of
St. Paul bookstore. They can showcase their skills for the
Charleston community. Then, next Thursday, December 17, both the
Beginner Band and Concert Band will perform their Christmas concerts
at CCS beginning at 6:30 p.m. We look forward to these performances
under the direction of our band teacher, Mrs. Draftz.

Next week will be exams for our 8th grade class, Monday through
Thursday. On Friday, we will have our schoolwide spelling bee before
we conclude the day with early dismissal at 11:15 a.m. for the
Christmas break.

Yours in Christ,

Fred McKay

Day.

That evening is our school’s Gala and Auction. We can start setting
up for the Gala in the morning. Look for more information about this
event as we get closer to the date.

Friday, May 27 is the last day of school for K4 & K5 students and
their end of the year celebration program.

Monday, May 30 no school, Memorial Day.
