4th Grade Curriculum

Religion:

This year the fourth graders will learn about the Church’s rich tradition of moral example and teaching. This tradition will provide motivation and direction for the child’s moral growth. The fourth graders will learn the importance of choosing between good and evil.

Math:

This year the fourth graders will begin with a review of years past and be introduced to new topics. Topics covered:

Place Value
Estimating
Finding patterns in numbers
Adding and subtracting
Multiply by two digits
Divide
Fractions
Decimals

Vocabulary
Spelling Words
Grammar

Science:

The fourth grade science program is divided into three series: Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science.

Topics covered:

Life Science: cells, ecosystems, plants, animals and the life process
Earth Science: Earth’s history, surface and interior, the sun, moon, and planets, water, and weather
Physical Science: properties of matter, changes in matter, different forms of energy, and electricity and magnetism

Social Studies:

Students will study the environment, the history and the economy of each region:

Southwest
Southeast
Northeast
Middle West
